The Polar Plunge is one of the biggest Special Olympics fundraisers of the year. The Plunge is a truly unique event and includes a fun, festive atmosphere with food and great prizes. The Plunge works just like a Walk-a-Thon, but with one big twist. Participants still solicit donations to support their effort (a BARE minimum of $75 to take part -- $50 minimum for Junior Plungers, ages 6-18), but instead of walking, Polar Bears take a chilly dip into a pool that will be set up on the plaza at Newport on the Levee.
Last year, the Polar Plunge raised a record $90,000 to support the efforts of Special Olympics athletes in Kentucky and Ohio.

Our Southgate House Gallery is transformed once again, and it'll never be the same. Found objects and acrylic paint come to life under Derek Toebbe's watch - a cultural and natural mash-up of beauty, fear, depth, and raw, abrasive saw-tooth clouds, somehow picked up and hung on the wall. Toebbe's joined by fellow multimedia artist Clint Woods, who crafts deliriously bizarre oddities. It ain't your typical art show, and it's not to be missed. As always, our art gallery opening reception is accompanied by a free rock show in the Parlour, featuring Black Signal, The Atriums and Ultra Pulverize. |
