Left Bank Productions, LLC presents: Beckett and Bock: An Evening of Word Plays by Samuel Beckett and Adam Bock

Left Bank Productions, LLC is proud to present Beckett and Bock: An Evening of Word Plays by Samuel Beckett and Adam Bock from March 19 – 28, 2010 at the Monmouth Theater located at 636 Monmouth St. in Newport, Kentucky.

The musicality and rhythms of human speech take center stage in Left Bank Productions’ upcoming evening of one-act plays featuring the works of an internationally famous playwright and a contemporary American playwright, who both share unique reflections on how modern man speaks and interacts. Beckett and Bock refers to Irish playwright Samuel Beckett whose “Theater of the Absurd” plays caused a sensation between 1948 and 1982 and Adam Bock, a contemporary American playwright featured in the Humana Festival at Actor’s Theater of Louisville. The evening will include performances of Bock’s The Shaker Chair and Beckett’s Come and Go and Play.

“What these plays have in common,” according to director Amy Hamilton, “is that both playwrights have unique ways of weaving the words together so that they have rhythm and meter in addition to expressing thought and emotion. Both playwrights use as few words as possible to communicate an idea leaving much of the interpretation up to the actors and audience. This is why we are calling them word plays. The playwrights are focused on the words as well as the drama and literally playing with getting the most effective drama from the combination of the fewest words.”

Opening night is Friday, March 19 at 8:00 PM. The production run includes 8:00 PM performances on March 19, 20, 26, and 27, and Matinee performances at 2:00 PM on March 21 and 28.
